Are Alexa and Siri always listening? What information might they be collecting about us? And who do they share it with? What are the benefits and drawbacks of voice assistants, and can we have one without the other? What are the social implications of giving computers voices?

Assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant offer a convenient and hands-free way to accomplish simple tasks or find out useful information. Our voices are becoming an increasingly essential part of how we interact with devices, but this method of interaction can obscure the ways in which our voices and the personal information we’re sharing are being used.

This workshop will explore the inner workings of voice assistants, as part of the development of an exciting new immersive experience for AI: Who’s Looking After Me? titled "Sentient Beings": a collaboration between artist Salome Bazin and researchers Dr Will Seymour and Dr Mark Coté.

Through conversations with the latest chat-based AI tool, Chat GPT, we'll explore questions around consent, biases and stereotyping.

Dr William Seymour and Dr Mark Coté are King’s researchers exploring these questions and other issues raised by the growing use of AI Voice assistants. Salome Bazin of Cellule Studio is a designer and artist, working within digital art, experiential and scenography, and exploring new mediums to relate to scientific phenomenons.
